Location
The airport is located 16km (10 miles) south of Minneapolis and 19km (12 miles) south of St Paul.
Airport News
A second, 5,500-space parking ramp at the Humphrey Terminal is being constructed and is scheduled to open in early 2009.
Transfer Between Terminals
A free shuttle bus links the main Lindbergh Terminal and the Humphrey Terminal.
Driving Directions
Both terminals are bordered by Hwy-62, the I-494, Hwy-77 and Hwy-5. Follow the exit signs on I-494 and Hwy-5 to reach the terminals.
Car Parking
There are several car parks with direct access to the terminals providing short-term, general, valet and discounted long-term parking facilities (tel: 1 877 359 7275). Since 1996, 6,500 parking spaces have been added at the Lindbergh Terminal, connected to the terminal by underground trams, and 4,700 spaces are available at the Humphrey Terminal.
Car Hire
All major companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National, are represented. There are courtesy telephones and touch-screen information available on the baggage reclaim level. Car hire counters in the Lindbergh Terminal can be found on the lower levels of the Blue and Red car parks, in the Hub Building, which is connected to the terminals by an underground tram. At the Humphrey Terminal, car rental counters are located in the Ground Transport Center on the ground level of the parking ramp directly across from the terminal building.
Public Transport
Rail: Light rail service to the airport is available (tel: (612) 373 3333; website: www.metrotransit.org/rail/). Trains stop at both the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals and connect travelers to 15 other destinations, including downtown Minneapolis to the north and the Mall of America to the south. Trains run between the terminals every 7 or 8 minutes during peak hours and every 10 to 15 minutes at other times of the day.
Road: Bus: City buses operated by Metro Transit (tel: (612) 341 4287; website: www.metrotransit.com) provide transportation throughout the Minneapolis/St Paul area; they pick-up from the airport's Transit Centre on the east side of the Blue and Red car parks.
Taxi: Taxis are available from the cab starter booth one level up from the Tram Level at the Lindbergh Terminal and from the Humphrey Ground Transportation Center at Level 1 in the parking ramp at the Humphrey Terminal. The airport has several self-serve business centres offering travellers private work stations with dataports in the Lindbergh Terminal. FedEx service, postage machines and ATMs are also available at these sites. There is also a conference centre (tel: (612) 794 4500) with facilities for up to 100 people, copying machines, fax, computers and courier services.
Facilities for Disabled Travellers
Facilities include lifts, toilets, electric carts and TDD phones. Travelers Assistance (tel: (612) 726 5500) can provide help. Passengers should request wheelchairs from their airline prior to travel. Reserved parking is available.
