The airport is situated 32km (20 miles) southwest of Detroit.

A major new North Terminal redevelopment is presently under way at the airport, and is due for completion in mid-2008. When open, it will replace the existing Berry and Smith terminal complex.

A free shuttle bus service runs between the Berry, Smith and McNamara Terminal buildings.

The airport can be accessed from two major interstate motorways: the I-94 Middlebelt/Merriman Road, exit 198, which turns into Rogell Drive, and the I-275 Eureka Road, exit 15 turning into Eureka Road.

There are several car parks offering hourly, daily and long-term parking. A free shuttle service is available between all terminals and car parks, stopping at the first level of the Big Blue Deck long-term car park and at pick-up points in the surface car parks. The airport has introduced a new ticketless parking payment system using credit or debit cards.

Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National are located on site, while Thrifty is located just outside the airport.

Rail: Amtrak (tel: 1 800 872 7245; website: www.amtrak.com) serves Dearborn station, 19km (12 miles) away from the airport.
Road: Bus: SMART buses (tel: 1 866 962 5515; website: www.smartbus.org) runs local services to central Detroit from the outer roadway (lower level) outside Smith Terminal, near the ground transportation offices. Greyhound long distance bus services (tel: 1 800 231 2222; website: www.greyhound.com) stop at Wayne station, 13km (8 miles) from the airport.

Staff in green waistcoats are designated customer service agents who can provide airport, hotel, transport, shopping and local information (tel: (734) 247 7678). There are also customer service points situated throughout the terminals.

Money and communications: Bureaux de change and ATMs can be found in all three terminals. Wireless Internet is available throughout the airport.
Eating and drinking: The McNamara Terminal has a wide selection of bars, cafés, fast-food outlets and restaurants; the Smith and Berry terminals have a smaller selection. Shopping: There are numerous shops at the airport, including duty-free outlets.
Luggage: There are lost property services in all three terminals (tel: (734) 942 3669).
Other facilities: These include baby-change facilities and children’s play areas.

The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport (tel: (734) 942 6500; website: www.starwoodhotels.com) offers a fully equipped business centre, plus 34 meeting spaces and a large ballroom. The Detroit Airport Marriott (tel: (734) 729 7555; website: www.marriott.com), located just beyond the Smith Terminal, also offers conference and banquet facilities, with 14 rooms available.

Reserved disabled car parking spaces are available in the airport’s car parks. Wheelchair-accessible shuttles are available for inter-terminal transfer. Disabled passengers are advised to call AMPCO parking services in advance for further instructions (tel: 1 800 642 1978). TDD/TTY telephones are available in the terminals, and wheelchairs and assistance from airlines are available on request; passengers should contact airlines prior to travel for further help.
